You might find it hard to believe this internet sense, but this time last year, 43-year-old Sarah Cooper was struggling with a handful of followers, happy to book at a pizzeria … and about to prepare for that white flag.
“Have you ever given up on the idea that you can hack it?” Reporter Jim Axelrod asked.
She said, “I was kinda.”
After that, the president threw her career (unintentionally, of course):
Suddenly, Cooper’s Donald Trump lip-synching – stripping everything except for his words – was the most exciting thing.
“What my videos did is remove all of that and say, ‘Listen to what he’s saying. Listen to what he’s saying Not Because it really isn’t saying anything, Cooper said.
Born in Jamaica and raised in Maryland, Cooper has always had the fun bug. But in her twenties, she chose safety over dream – working at Yahoo and Google – and comedy side by side.
However, technology gave her only what she needed: materials.
“I noticed in the meetings that there was a lot of imitation going on,” she said. “I saw someone get up and walk around the room, so maybe in the next meeting, I was Get up and walk into the room. “
Axelrod suggests, “Someone hits a desk, looks at everyone, and says, ‘Would you expand? ”
“right!” I laughed. “That’s very exciting, but yeah.”
So, watching President Trump at a new conference last April …
“So, suppose we hit the object with a tremendous light – whether it was an ultraviolet light or a very powerful light – and I think you said it wasn’t verified, but you’re going to test it. Then I said, let’s say you brought the light inside the object, which you can do either through Skin or some other way, and I think you said you’d test that too. Sounds interesting … ”
Cooper said, “When he was just like him, you said we weren’t checking it? We’ll give it a try, right?” I saw the other person in the room go, What? what are you talking about?“
She knew she found exactly what she needed and who.
Axelrod asked, “Is there a connection between those tech brothers you see dropping the right phrase and President Trump?”
“Oh my God, yeah. We see the suit and we see the seal and we see people shake their head and we think,” Oh, it should make sense. Must be He makes sense, so why are all these people listening to him, laughing, clapping, and agreeing with him? “
She made her “How to Medical” video in two hours, working on the basics of photography, as she filmed with her smartphone. Sarah Cooper, after 20 years of trying, had overnight success. “And the next morning, he had nearly a million views or something like that,” she said.
Next thing I knew was that Jerry Seinfeld retweeted it. Cher was calling her deserving of an Oscar; And Kamala Harris wanted to talk to her.
But when Mr Trump leaves office, don’t for a moment think Sarah Cooper is the least conflicted. Axelrod asked, “Does the little one want to see it, just because it’s good for the job?”
She replied, “No, no.” “I think I found a way to mock him that was different and interesting. But I think we’re done. We won’t see more. And I feel like I should be using it as propellant, but I also have to run from it in some way. Like, I don’t want to be known as a” lip-sync girl ” .
Also was the old school impersonator, like Von Meder And the Rich LittleSarah Cooper is the next generation.
Axelrod said, “You are not Rich Little. You are not von Meader …”.
“who are these people?” She asked.
“You make me feel 1,000 years old!”
Cooper laughed, “I’m sorry!”
She is now opening the next stage of her career. She admits to some anxiety: “What if that was the case, do you know what I mean? What if that was 15 minutes? Like, what if I couldn’t do anything incredible like this again?”
But a recent Netflix special, with guests like Helen Mirren, and a series in development with CBS, means Cooper is in a much different place in January than in the past.
Axelrod asked, “If we’ve been sitting in this seat in five years’ time, what do you feel we’re going to talk about?”
She replied, “I would like to make the next“ Seinfeld. ”I would like to make the next“ office ”. I’d like to do a show that speaks a lot in my voice. “
Her voice … no for him. Axelrod asked, “Do you feel compelled to take off the mask,” Here she is who I am? “
“I definitely wanted it,” said Cooper. “I’d like to get to that point where I really feel really, really like me.”
