Two Spirit Airlines workers were injured while two passengers were arrested and a third was killed at the Detroit Metro Airport Sunday evening after a brawl broke out in the boarding area.
The quarrel occurred when a quarrel occurred over the size of a passenger’s carry-on baggage.
Spirit revealed in a statement that “three passengers attacked our agents without provocation.”

The melee began after the gate agents asked passengers to confirm that their carry-on bags were the correct sizes for an aircraft cabin.
While the agents were trying to calm the situation, the staff tried to defuse the situation but were assaulted when they locked the doors to prevent boarding.
A worker from the airline was taken to a nearby hospital for medical attention.

The gatekeepers ended up on the ground and at least one of them had to take him to the hospital
“All of us at Spirit wish the agents a speedy recovery and thank them for their courage and professionalism,” Spirit said in a statement.
We also thank the law enforcement authorities for their prompt response and for the arrest of those involved in the attack.
This violent behavior is completely unacceptable and has absolutely no place in airports or any other workplace.
“We will not tolerate abusive behavior of any kind and these passengers will be banned from future travel with Spirit.”
