“We just need new energy. We just need discipline. We need a structure. We need a leader so that we can follow that leader as players. That’s what we need.”
Texas coach Bill O’Brien sacked his head coach and general manager in October, and has since taken over interim coach Romeo Krenell and interim general manager Jack Easterby.
Houston, which during the season began interviewing senior coaches and general manager nominees not currently employed by teams, began to request permission from teams to interview candidates. On Monday, ESPN’s Adam Shifter reported that Texas is requesting permission to interview New England Patriots team manager Nick Caserio for the open general manager position.
ESPN’s Ed Werder reported that Houston set a three-hour appointment Sunday for a video interview with Indianapolis Colts defense coordinator Matt Eberfloss for the manager’s opening, the day after Colts’ play-off match against the Beals.
Watson said Monday that he spoke to Texas CEO Cal McNair on Sunday to discuss the open roles, expressing his interest in offensive coordinator Tim Kelly who is likely to return next season after the best season for the quarterback career.
We should all be on the same page, Watson said. “There are a lot of different minds, a lot of different ideas and a lot of people think they have that power, and it’s not like that. We need someone who is tall, and this is who we are following and this is the way things are going.”
